Where in Malaysia to find beautiful Tecoma trees in 2021 as our very own 'sakura season' takes bloom
Similar to the sakura blossoms of Japan, Tecoma trees in Malaysia bloom in the pink or white varieties. These delicate blooms resemble little trumpets, with soft tissue paper-like petals that have earned it the nickname of 'tissue paper tree'. From February to March, these trees bloom their fullest in dry seasons that follow spells of heavy rain, drawing admiration from onlookers and Instagrammers looking to pepper their feeds with sakura snapshots. Even if you can't catch the famed sakura blossoms in Japan, Taiwan or South Korea this year, consider instead a visit to these quaint locations in Malaysia, from Penang to Kedah.

Penang
From towering trees in recreational parks to wispy blooms by the roadside, Tecoma trees in Penang are a thing of beauty. Taman Bagan Lalang in Butterworth (pictured above) is one such place to see the trees standing proudly over blossom covered roads. These blossoms can also be found in places like Taman Sri Nibong Recreational Park and Bay Avenue in Bayan Lepas or along Jalan Dato Keramat in George Town.
The Penang Sakura San San San (or 333) project was even launched in 2020 with the goal of planting 333 Tecoma trees in George Town as part of the Penang city council's mission to plant 33,333 trees over a five-year period.
