Celebrating fluidity

“What I love most about rivers is / You can’t step in the same river twice / The water’s always changing, always flowing ...” just like our definition and understanding of identity—be it cultural, gender or something else—both as individuals and collectively. And while the fashion industry was among the first to recognise and honour this shift, genderless fashion is no passing fad. Here, Tatler speaks to Asian designers, retailers and organisations to understand how it has evolved, where it is in 2023, and what it needs for the future.

Gender-fluid fashion is just one example of the brilliance that is possible when we embrace fluidity. Other examples include seeking out bites other than sushi when you’re in Tokyo—the city is a burgeoning cadre of world-class pizzerias, too! Also, this home tour of a gorgeous tropical modernist Miami home with bold art deco touches; or Hong Kong entrepreneur, photographer and LGBTQ+ activist Kayla Wong, who launched Lang, her online retail platform that spotlights diversity.

Other newsletter highlights this week:

Here’s to inclusion and going with the flow, Tatler readers—and, as always, happy Friday!
