Nurturing the scene

There’s much to be said about Tony Leung; but for an actor of his calibre, it can feel like no words will do him or his career justice. Nevertheless, Tatler took on the challenge and sat down with him to talk about his most iconic roles and his impact on the movie industry in Hong Kong and beyond. Also, Leung tells us he hopes his work in international films will pique viewers’ interest in the city’s rich cinematic culture.

While creativity can blossom thanks to the patronage of influential spokespeople like Leung, community-building is just as crucial, which is evident in the impact of Bad Times Disco’s conscientious parties on the Hong Kong music industry. And even when given the opportunity to blossom, creativity can face unjust obstacles like discrimination, just ask Sravya Attaluri, founder of Hello Colour, a social impact design lab that is giving Hong Kong’s minority talent a place to create for positive causes.

Other newsletter highlights this week:

Dear Tatler reader, as busy as our weeks get, don't forget to nurture yourself before nurturing others. Until next time, have a happy Friday!
