Anton Tantoco Huang

President, SSI Group, Inc

He maintains SSI’s lead with a diverse portfolio and proactive digital acceleration

Anton Tantoco Huang was appointed executive vice president of Stores Specialists, Inc (SSI) in 1994, with just three brands in its portfolio. Now, as SSI's president, Huang oversees close to 100 brands sold through a network of over 500 stores. What makes his job all the more challenging is SSI’s diverse portfolio (across a range that includes furniture and décor, fashion, food and beauty) catering to different markets.

In 2022, Huang completed his Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in Boston. Given how the pandemic lockdowns have impacted retail, his degree has come in handy. Huang does have an edge, having launched SSI's online selling site TRUNC during the pandemic.

While sales had taken a hit during the first year of the lockdowns, they have started to pick up slowly since 2021. SSI has broken records and announced that its net income had soared by over 100 per cent for the first half of 2023. Their earnings have already reached Php1 billion. This was said to have been propelled by revenue growth, lower interest expenses, and higher gross profit margins. "Our results also reflect the benefits of the Group's optimised expense base and strong cash position," SSI Group President Anthony Huang said in a statement.

Huang sets aside time for his advocacies, among them the Philippine Business Coalition for Women Empowerment, of which he is a founding member.
