Arthur Ty

Chairman, AGE RANGE

Arthur Ty’s leadership style can be characterised as a harmonious blend of Western theoretical knowledge and Filipino-Chinese practical know-how.

A couple of years before the passing of his father, George Siao Kian Ty, founder of Metrobank and its holding company GT Holdings Capital, Arthur had been a driving force behind the conglomerate’s growth and expansion as its chairman. Prior to this, he had been serving as vice chairman since 2007.

Ty graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He obtained his Master in Business Administration degree from Columbia University in 1991. Through the years, he has worked his way around the family business and helped to generate stable and diversified revenues.

He was the president of Metrobank from 2006 to 2012 and was appointed as its chairman in 2012. He aided his father in expanding the highly trusted bank, until the family’s group of companies grew which prompted them to create GT Capital Holdings Inc in 2007. In 2012, GT Capital debuted on the Philippine Stock Exchange with a total offer size of up to PHP21.6 billion. Ty also serves today as chairman of Metropolitan Bank (China) Ltd in Nanjing, chairman of the Metrobank Foundation, vice chairman and director of Philippine Savings Bank, and vice chairman of AXA Philippines.
