Co-vice chairman, SM Investments Corp.

He continues the legacy of his family and leads the country in exciting new developments

Even before the passing of his father, Henry Sy Jr had been taking the reins of some of the major components of SM Group, one of the largest conglomerates in the country. In 1994, he became the director of SM Prime Holdings and its chairman of the board in 2014. The group’s property arm ventures into the construction of malls, residences, offices, hotels, and convention centres. Through his efforts, the SM Development Corporation was revived and is now one of the Philippines' leading residential real estate developers. When he founded Big Boss Cement in 2017, the timing greatly benefited the company as the government pushed forth infrastructure projects nationwide. Big Boss Cement is known for making cement out of volcanic debris at its plant in Porac, Pampanga.

Consistently, the SM Group receives honours and accolades for its active efforts in sustainability, gender equality and inclusivity in the work environment, and many more. It is also listed by Forbes as one of the highly regarded companies in the world in terms of trustworthiness and performance.

In 2023, Data Lake, a data company helmed by Sy, deployed 200 Starlink units in the Philippines. Sy brought in Elon Musk’s broadband system to increase the overall speed and efficiency of the Internet in the country.
