Ivan Yao

President, Lucerne Group

If you’re a timepiece collector, you’ve probably heard or read about Ivan Yao, a pioneering luxury purveyor who introduced Manila to some of the world’s best watches.

Serious watch collectors in Manila regard Ivan Yao and his brother, Emerson as the retail world’s godfathers of seriously fine timepieces. Through their company, the Lucerne Group, the two introduced the most prestigious watch brands, such as Patek Philippe, Breitling, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, to name just a few.

Ivan, the more low-key of the Yao siblings, prefers to be in the shadows. But through his vision, Lucerne grew to what it is today—a multi-brand company that carries not just watches, but a slew of other businesses. That includes optical chain Owndays, and cult bag brand Anello.

He also brought in a whole city, via ‘@Tokyo,’ a boutique store that has all things Japanese. There you’ll find things you didn’t know you needed, like heritage brand Karuizawa Shirts, Kuchigane rucksacks, and Waterfront umbrellas.
