Kevin Tan

CEO, Alliance Global Group, Inc / Megaworld

The young tycoon heads a massive business empire that includes Megaworld Corporation and Golden Arches Development Corporation to name a few

Kevin Tan’s group oversees not only real estate through the Megaworld Corporation but also the fast-food industry through the Golden Arches Development Corporation, hospitality and property management through Travellers International Hotel Group, Inc., and liquor through Emperador Inc. Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI), which was founded in 1993 by Kevin’s father, Dr. Andrew Tan.

Tan has lofty ambitions, as he had previously targeted the company to become carbon neutral by 2030, though this goal had to be pushed back due to the pandemic. He has also focused on creating five million jobs for Filipinos nationwide through Megaworld’s real estate developments. The ventures do not stop there, either. As president of the Megaworld Real Estate Investment Trust (MREIT), he is also at the helm of one of the Philippines’ largest REITs, with a little over PHP15.3 billion in an initial public offering. He co-founded Pick-A-Roo, a consumer delivery app with 1.2 million downloads in just two years.

Tan also played a pivotal role in AGI’s hotel dominance and its ascension as the country’s leading hotel operator, with close to 7,500 room keys spread across crucial tourism destinations and business districts nationwide, including its very own homegrown hotel brands under Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, and through the country’s first integrated resort, Newport World Resorts. Under his leadership, AGI is expanding its hotel portfolio to 11,000 room keys by 2028, along with new MICE facilities, further signifying AGI’s commitment to the Philippine hospitality industry.

He is also at the helm of Emperador Distillers, Inc., the Philippines’ largest liquor company and the biggest brandy manufacturer in the world. Under his leadership, Emperador continues to expand its dominance and presence in over 55 countries across Asia, North and South America, Europe and Africa with its ever-growing portfolio of premium liquors and spirits, which include global brands such as Whyte and Mackay, Jura, Fundador Domecq and The Dalmore.

AGI has created a conglomerate-wide ESG programme called “Sustain-AGI-lity”, where the company aims to achieve carbon neutrality and make impactful contributions to key Sustainable Development Goals, including water and energy, job creation, local and economic development, environment, women in the workplace, waste management, resiliency, green development, education and community development in the next ten years.

“Global headwinds affect all businesses today. We need to look for efficiencies in all aspects of operations constantly.”

Emperador uses organic biogas to fuel the boilers in its distilling plants. These boilers produce steam that power turbines, creating electricity that reduces their carbon footprint. Their operations in Spain also invested in deficit irrigation, which benefits locations that have low water supply.
