Margarita "Margie" Moran-Floirendo

Ad Interim Co-Vice Chairperson, Cultural Center of the Philippines

CCP’s former chair and president also champions Mindanao’s cultural heritage

Margie Moran-Floirendo took on a new official role as the president of the Cultural Centre of the Philippines (CCP) at the beginning of 2022, after serving as chairperson of its board of trustees' chairperson for almost three years.

Achieving fame as the Miss Universe 1973 crown holder, Moran-Floirendo has since been involved in a wide range humanitarian and cultural advocacies over the years. She has served as president of the Southern Philippines Foundation for the Arts, Culture and Ecology, where she undertook various projects to preserve the cultural heritage of Mindanao. For 25 years, she was also involved in the tourism industry as the general manager of House of Travel and as CEO of Pearl Farm Beach Resort in the Island Garden City of Samal.

Moran-Floirendo also served as a former trustee of Habitat for Humanity Philippines Board of Trustees, where she supervised the establishment of 1000 houses in Peace and Development communities in Maguindanao, Sultan Kudarat, General Santos, Sarangani Province and North Cotabato. As a founding member of the Mindanao Commission on Women, she committed to making a greater Mindanao through projects promoting peace, good governance, livelihood, education and health.

In September 2022, Moran-Floirendo announced that the CCP will be closed for three years to allow for the renovation and retrofitting of the 53-year-old building. “I look forward to the opportunities in store when we close our building temporarily. We will be outdoors, do outreach and perform in other venues to undertake cultural exchanges around the country.”

“I welcome each day with a prayer to the Holy Spirit to guide me through the day. And I take inspiration from my superiors and peers who know more than I do.”
