Feast for a Cause at Solaire Finestra

Fill your stomach and soul with a feast for a cause

It was with bated breath, a tinge of nerves and hopeful hearts that the board of trustees and directors of the Child Protection Network (CPN) Foundation planned its first fundraiser after the pandemic. The idea was to keep it to a smaller group of friends and donors. Then, have it in a beautiful venue with a top-notch dinner and wines, plus offer a few select items and experiences for auction.

Thus, 'Feast for a Cause: The CPN Dinner' was born. With a target of raising Php 6,500,000 to aid the continuing fight against child abuse, the evening’s results outdid itself and a total of Php 9,375,000 (and counting) was realised! There is certainly much to be grateful for.

It was held over the weekend at the gorgeous Finestra Restaurant of Solaire. All the guests made a contribution to attend the dinner and it was a most delicious one prepared by Finestra’s 1 Michelin Star Chef Andreas Spagoni.

The amuse bouche was a Gallagher oyster with spice xerez emulsion. Next was an exquisite poached trout with scallions and almonds. The tortellini with herbs, asparagus and slow-cooked cuttlefish was divine. But the star was the wagyu strip loin with sweet and sour beetroot. The meal closed with an espresso royal with biscotti crumble and vanilla bean ice cream.

Board trustees led by founders David and Katherine Bradley, president Irene Martel Francisco, Lizzy Razon, Alice Eduardo, Renna Angeles, Mia Borromeo, Johnny Velasquez and Director Kat Legarda were on hand to ensure everyone had a relaxed and fun evening. Dr Bernadette Madrid, Magsaysay Awardee and CPN executive director, gave an update on the activities of the organisation.

Up for auction led by Tonico Manahan and aided by Issa Litton was a rare painting by former president Corazon C Aquino, donated by Alice Eduardo. Then a week-long stay for 12 people at the Bradley home in Provence, France. This lot proved to be so popular that another week’s stay was auctioned as well! The following lot was a vintage Rolex Datejust, made in 1961 and donated by Vintage Grail. The final auction lot was a magnificent A2A Safaris trip of four nights in the most iconic camps in Botswana, that ultimate safari destination.

A good cause like CPN is something that will attract civic-minded people. It is because of this generosity of spirit that life can be hopeful and healing for these children.
