Coming in at SG$5.9 million, Shawn Yue’s newest Zombieclub Token is the latest hot topic in the NFT marketplace

NFTs are here to stay and Hong Kong actor Shawn Yue certainly knows that after his latest non-fungible token (NFT) set a world record at an online auction.

Yue’s newly launched Zombieclub Token NFT went on presale on March 15 at 9pm, and less than three hours later (two hours and 42 minutes to be exact), it became the top NFT on the NFT marketplace OpenSea. This set a new world record for being the first NFT to reach top position in such a short amount of time.

Yue took to social media to thank his team for the incredible achievement, saying, “Thank you to each and every one of the Zombies who supported us. This is your accomplishment, I love you all.”

“Remember, we don’t want to be proud, this is just the beginning for us, the four of us have our sights set on more, we are ready to charge out of Asia,” he added.

Last year, the actor managed to raise over HK$121.6 million (SG$21.1million) by auctioning off 14 NFTs through an online auction. One of the items, a Cryptopunk NFT, fetched a whopping HK$33.85 million (SG$5.9 million).

The Cryptopunk series is made up of 10,000 unique 24x24, 8-bit-style pixel art avatars and is considered to be one of the first major NFT projects.

The project launched in 2017 and each NFT was reportedly valued at millions.

It has been reported that Yue, who is the father of two, worked and held meetings about the launch of the NFT for almost half a year before it was officially released.

It has since been talked about by celebrity heavyweights such as Jay Chou, JJ Lin, Stephen Fung, Kai Ko, and Eric Chou on their respective social media platforms.
