November has so much in store as exhibitions, plays, and local and international concerts take over the last “ber” month before the holidays


Waitress | 9 November to 2 December | Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium

The Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group simply can’t wait to tell you what’s cooking. Though it took them one pie at a time, they are finally ready to serve to the Philippine audience the Tony-nominated Waitress: The Musical. Award-winning stage and film actress Joanna Ampil plays the lead character Jenna Hunterson, a woman coping with and trying to survive life with an abusive husband. Playing the part of her two co-workers and supportive best friends, Becky and Dawn, are Bituin Escalante and Maronne Cruz, respectively. The story, written by Jessie Nelson, was later adapted to film. Original music and lyrics are by American singer-songwriter Sarah Bareilles. The Philippine production of Waitress: The Musical will be directed by Bobby Garcia. Atlantis has staged several successful plays like Beauty and the Beast, Jesus Christ Superstar, and just recently, Matildaand Kinky Boots. 2/13Aaron Carter | 18 November | Kia Theatre, Quezon City

Those who grew up in the late ’90s sang and danced along to pop star Aaron Carter’s catchy tunes. After 16 years, he releases his new studio album LØVË. He has been in the limelight as early as seven, and reached the top of the musical charts with songs like “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)” and “That’s How I Beat Shaq.” Go back in time as Carter brings his songs to the Philippine stage on 18 November at the Kia Theatre, Quezon City. 3/13Manila Notes | 30 December to 16 December | Cultural Centre of the Philippines

Tanghalang Pilipino, with The Japan Foundation Manila and the Cultural Centre of the Philippines, presents Manila Notes. Based on the original play Tokyo Notes, written and directed by Japanese dramatist Oriza Hirata, Manila Notes was adapted by Rody Vera and runs from 30 November through 16 December at the CCP Little Theatre, Pasay City. The “Young, Dumb, and Broke” artist invades Manila with his American Teen Tour. Khalid broke new ground by collaborating with Logic and Alesia Cara on the suicide prevention anthem “1-800.” He is slated to perform on 2 November at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City.
