Join The Adidas x Parley Run For The Oceans To Help Reduce Plastic Waste
There's nothing more invigorating than going for a run, but this time those happy endorphins aren't the only reward. From 28 May 2021 to 8 June 2021, the Adidas x Parley Run For The Oceans is giving runners a chance to do more by running more.
CEO and founder of Parley, Cyril Gutsch, says: "More than a run or awareness campaign, Run for the Oceans has evolved into a powerful impact platform, one that inspires and empowers millions of people worldwide to unite around a common goal and support the oceans through sport, boosting the Parley movement through actual movement."
During the event, Parley and Adidas are committing to clean up the ocean one kilometre at a time. Each kilometre run via the adidas Running app (Strava/Joyrun) will allow both institutions the means to the clean up an equivalent weight of 10 plastic bottles from our oceans, beaches, remote islands, and coastlines.
Since 2015, Adidas has made more than 30 million pairs of shoes with plastic intercepted along these coastal regions. Alberto Uncini Manganelli, GM Running & Credibility Sports at adidas, says: “It is our responsibility to use our platforms, products, and voices to not just raise awareness, but to put into effect real action. In just three decades, the world’s oceans could contain more discarded plastic than fish if we don’t act now—only by working together and uniting can we end plastic waste."
This 2021 marks the fourth year of the Adidas x Parley Run For The Oceans and within that timeframe, the project has united over 3 million runners around the world. Collectively, they've clocked up 25.5 million kilometres and has helped raise $2.5 million dollars to help with Parley initiatives. Run For The Oceans aims to further expand its reach so that by 2025, there will be 40 million runners running for our planet.
