From his introduction in Thor to him walking away with the space stone in Avengers: Endgame, here's everything you need to know about Loki's role in the MCU before the series drops tomorrow

Loki's highly anticipated Disney+ series is almost here with the series launching on the streaming site tomorrow, June 9.

The exciting new series is set to follow Loki, a villain (or anti-hero) commonly referred to as the God of Mischief, and will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame

In honour of the premiere, Marvel has been amping up their promotions for the series and one of the things they did was a short featurette in which Tom Hiddleston uses Loki's time tricks to help audiences catch up on Loki's story thus far and to prepare them for the series.

In it, he goes through his role in Thor, Marvel's The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

1. Thor (2011)

Loki was introduced to us in the first Thor movie which was released in 2011. At that point, Loki, Thor's brother, was a manipulative and crafty prince who was loyal to Asgard but who repeatedly tried to cause trouble.

Fans might remember Loki getting Frost Giants to interrupt the moment when Thor was supposed to take over his father, Odin, as the king of Asgard. He did this out of jealousy against his brother.

Loki's plan however led him down a path where he learnt that he himself was a Frost Giant who was rescued as a baby by Odin from the Jotunheim battlefield in the hopes that he would one day be able to foster peace between the two realms.

Loki then attempted to go into Jotunheim to make a deal with the Forest Giants to kill Odin. However, when the Forest Giants arrived at Odin's bedside, Loki turned around and ended up killing the Forest Giant leader himself.

As Loki prepared to destroy the Forest Giant realm, Thor stepped in and the brothers fought alongside each other to save Earth.

In the fight, as Thor attempted to destroy the bridge that allowed access to and from Asgard, Loki fell over the edge. Though Thor and Odin managed to catch him, he chose to let go of Odin's staff and fell into the abyss.

2. Marvel's Avengers (2012)

After falling into the abyss, Loki met Thanos. He decided to broker a deal with them and Thanos gave Loki a staff that he could use to take over Earth. In exchange, Loki gave them the Tesseract, a container that contained the Space Stone.

Loki then went to the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility and used mind control on Hawkeye to steal the energy cube. Hawkeye then decided to assemble a team of superheroes to save the world. He called them the Avengers.

Loki went on to create more distractions for the team. In Germany, however, he is captured by the group. Following his relatively easy capture, the Avengers quickly realised that Loki only allowed himself to be caught so that he could unleash the Hulk and distract them. Unfortunately, it was too late and Loki managed to split the Avengers team.

Loki was eventually captured after being attacked by the Hulk and he was sent back to Asgard where he was due to stand trial.

3. Thor: The Dark World (2013)

The second Thor film opened with Loki being sentenced by Odin to spend the rest of his life in the dungeons of Asgard. While he was there, his mother, Frigga, visited him and attempted to get him to see reason. Meanwhile, Malekith, who was the leader of the Dark Elves, attempted to destroy Asgard and take control of the Nine Realms.

Malekith decided to send one of his people, Algrim, to be captured by the Asgardian soldiers so that he could start a riot while in jail and begin Malekith's evil plan.

Unfortunately, as Algrim made his way out of the prison, he passed Loki who told Algrim that he should “take the stairs on the left.”

Algrim agreed but unfortunately, this later led Malekith, who stormed Asgard, directly to Frigga who is killed at their hands. Loki, when he found out, was devastated.

Thor then stepped in and came up with a plan to defeat Malekith. He also broke Loki out of jail to fight alongside him. Loki in turn helped Thor escape Asgard and the brothers had a discussion about their relationship.

At the end of the film, viewers saw Loki sacrifice himself to save Thor who then went to Odin to tell him that he did not want to take over and be the king of Asgard. Odin allowed Thor to live on Earth among humans. However, it was quickly revealed that it was simply Loki disguised as Odin.

4. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

While Thor was searching for the infinity stones, Loki went to work remaking Asgard with huge statues of himself and plays that honoured only him.

Thankfully, Thor returned to Asgard and quickly managed to figure out that Odin was Loki in disguise. Thor forced him to get their father back. Unfortunately, he died and with his death, unleashed Hela, their older sister who was also the Goddess of Death.

As they tried to escape, both Loki and Thor were kicked off the bridge before they could reach Asgard. The pair landed on a foreign planet called Sakaar.

Loki quickly managed to get into the good books of the planet’s founder, the Grandmaster. However, Thor was forced to fight for entertainment.

When Thor and Hulk teamed up to leave Sakaar, they included Loki. However, Loki again tried to betray Thor. Thankfully, Thor saw this coming and was able to stop him.

Loki then attempted to help save Asgard from Hela. However, the battle was tough and Thor knew that he could only save Asgard by bringing about Ragnarok.

Loki then decided to resurrect a flame demon called Surtur who wants to destroy Asgard. Loki went to the vault and put the crown in the Eternal Flame as he was resurrecting him. He then ran off from Asgard as Surtur completely destroyed the place including Hela.

The film ended with Thor and Loki patching things up and with Loki looking to start a new life on Earth.

5. Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

In the first part of the epic MCU finale, Thanos showed up and messed things up. In the film, Loki refused to give up the location of the Tesseract. Unfortunately, Thanos still managed to get the space stone on his own.

In an attempt to protect Thor, Loki tried to team up with Thanos so that he could get close enough to Mad Titan in order to eventually kill him. However, Thanos very quickly figured this out and killed him by snapping his neck.

The audience was left shocked as Thanos says, "No resurrections this time.”

6. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

The final, heartbreaking episode of the MCU, took place five years after the defeat of the Avengers at the hands of Thanos. The Avengers came up with a plan to use a time machine in order to go back in time so that they could steal the infinity stones before Thanos could get his hands on them and wreak havoc.

The audience was taken backwards through the timeline till they got to the point where Loki, who had been arrested for starting a Chitauri war outside of Grand Central Station, was.

The Avengers finally managed to steal the stones until an incident with the Hulk sent the Tesseract flying right into the path of Loki.

Loki picked up the stone and vanished, and this would be where the new Disney Plus series is set to pick up from.

We don't know about you but we can't wait to see how the story of Loki continues tomorrow.
