What surprised you about being pregnant?

The hormones! I thought I could control them, but apparently some things are not all in the mind. I just learn to accept it, go through it, and move on.

What have you changed in your lifestyle or routine now that you are pregnant?

I’ve definitely learned to take it easy. I used to be a workaholic, but when pregnant and experiencing the crazy hormones, nausea and fatigue—it’s just physically impossible to move sometimes! I used to be so anxious about not doing enough work, but now I’m kinder to myself and I allow myself to rest more.

What are you afraid of?

I’m most scared of labor and recovery at this point, especially with the uncertainty of where and how we will deliver due to the pandemic. All I can do is trust in my doctors and try my best to be as healthy as I can be for my baby.

Any interesting cravings? What are some go-to foods you are eating?

I’m definitely craving for all the unhealthy stuff right now. French fries, fried cheese, baked lasagna, mango floats! All these are making my mouth water!

Could you share what you have learned about yourself during your pregnancy?

I am stronger and braver than I thought I was. It’s not easy being pregnant, especially at this time. But I am amazed at how I can still keep going every single day. Even with every new physical symptom or problem that arises, I just keep going because I have to.

How has being pregnant empowered you more as a woman?

I’m definitely more confident now. I feel like I’m capable of creating and housing this miracle and enduring so much pain—I can do anything.

What are some things you did not expect to find so difficult?

I didn’t expect to be so fatigued! I hear about it a lot but since I was pretty active pre-pregnancy, I thought I’d be one of those moms hitting the gym at eight months pregnant. Now, even the simplest workouts tire me so much! A few minutes of walking and I want to collapse in my bed!

Do you think it is important to stay active while pregnant?

Yes, definitely. But don’t strain yourself too much. 20 minutes a day of light to moderate workouts is okay.

Is there anything about your pre-pregnancy routine you're excited to go back to?

Just excited to feel my body temperature normalise, and be more active during the day.

What lessons do you want your children to learn?

I want my future kids to really LIVE life. Not live life in a bubble—or be used to a certain lifestyle—but to experience life in all its aspects. To be willing to rough it, and really appreciate its simple pleasures. I want my children to carve their own paths in life, and hopefully even spark a change in the world.
