2020 has been quite a year, to say the least, for all of us. But as this challenging year is slowly coming to an end, I’m keeping my hopes up for 2021. I hope that there will finally be an effective vaccine for COVID-19 that’s accessible to everyone. I hope businesses especially the smaller ones will bounce back and that people who were laid off because of this pandemic can return to their jobs or find new ones. I hope we will get to travel again, see our families, friends and relatives abroad, take our children on fun trips and adventures and make new memories—all with no fear or anxiety. However, what is most important is staying positive and bonded as a family, living despite the tough circumstances and keeping safe and healthy—some valuable lessons this pandemic has taught me.

My New Year’s resolution is to give more to those in need. I’ve learnt to be more grateful for the things I have. We had a great start organising and growing Ang Panday Bayanihan Foundation. I want to keep the momentum going and help as many people as possible! We will survive and thrive if we can all learn to come together and give a little bit for our fellow countrymen and women.

Every new year is a blessing but 2021 is especially unique since it means we were able to overcome the epic hurdles of 2020 and hopefully we will move on to better and brighter days ahead. For this coming year, I vow to live a simpler and more environmentally conscious life—less waste, less drama, less clutter, less noise. In detaching from these, I hope to fill my life with more meaningful moments spent with loved ones and perform more acts of charity towards the less fortunate.

My New Year’s resolution is to spend more time in nature in the hopes of finding my centring in this unbalanced world. To raise my children in a home where the news, gadgets and screen time are given healthy boundaries and more reverence given to the outdoors.

Next year I hope to be more present, mindful and grateful, especially now that I have a new little family and discovering motherhood along the way. This for me means eliminating distractions (like social media overuse), letting my loved ones know how much they mean to me through better communication, and also finding a way to balance motherhood and start working on new projects here in Tokyo.

Despite being such an unpredictable year, I’m looking at 2021 with more optimism, armed with the learnings and resilience from 2020. Simplicity is a core value for me and, with that, I’m committing to: being a more thoughtful, grounded and inspiring leader, both at home and at work; keeping mindful of why we do what we do; staying physically and mentally fit through a dose of golf and daily meditation; and being more decisive and taking more risks. “To all or nothing gambits. It’s the only way to live.”

I hope the new year brings a better normal for us. 2020 has been a tough year but definitely a learning experience and a year of unprecedented events. It’s not all bad but it shouldn’t have taken a pandemic to make us realise our priorities and appreciating the simple joys in life. I hope that 2021 will be the year we can leave all that’s bad in 2020 behind.
