If the fashion gods are right, these should be some of the looks we expect to get wooed and wowed by based on some the hottest runway forecasts this year:

With just days away from this year's Philippine Tatler Ball, the country's most sought-after local fashion designers and their muses must all have their calendars booked up getting ready for the exciting, much-awaited event. From fitting appointments, to final touches, and picking out accessories—we can’t wait to see the fabulous frocks and spiffy suits our stylish guests will be seen donning at the Ball!

Feathers

Tatler Asia

Feather fashion took over 2019, with some even dubbing the trend as this years’ biggest fashion moment. Speaking of everything big, which seemed to be a major theme in 2019, this plush trend calls for over-the-top confidence. Opt for an understated version with feather trimmings if you’re feeling seductive. Either way you’re sure to turn heads with any of these feathered-looks!

Tulle

Tatler Asia

Tulle has been spotted all over the runway this year. Fashion adaptations of this key fabric ran the gamut from avant-garde to the classic ultra-feminine silhouette it's best known for. Pleated, embroidered, or layered in massive proportions—you name it! It doesn’t hurt that tulle is ball-appropriate no matter what the style. To me, tulle is a keeper, and we are surely expecting to see more of it at this year’s Tatler Ball.

Power Shoulders

Tatler Asia

The message is clear, power dressing is upon us (we got the memo). True to its form, this trend is showing no signs of slowing down. When it comes to power dressing, as your mum would tell you based on her ’80s wardrobe—the bigger the better. But proceed with caution: to avoid looking like a walking ’80s throwback, the key to this trend is to keep everything sleek and paired-down, with minimal make-up (gasp!) and understated jewelry.

Ruffles

Tatler Asia

In line with 2019’s nod to maximalism and its frequent references to the most opulent of decades, ruffles have been seen making a big comeback; adding fanfare and whimsy to many fashion collections. Take a cue from Marc Jacobs’ most notable interpretation, giving ruffles a modern update in high-collared, structured bows made of taffeta. Proving that swoon-worthy ruffles can be surprisingly edgy and dramatic as it is romantic.

Florals

Tatler Asia

You read the word and almost instantly you hear The Devil Wear's Prada's Miranda Priestly in your head uttering— Florals in spring? Groundbreaking. But there’s more to this infamous spring trend than the popular ficitonal character gave it credit for. Thanks to one of 2019’s key trends of dark romanticism, floral prints broke out of its usual dreamy pastels and sweet renditions into the dark abyss of gothicism. Making it perfect for an evening of glamour and revelry (hint, hint).
