Summer season is officially gone, but before it gets cooler all around the world, it's time to get familiar with the top men's fashion items and looks to take you into the in-between season From checks to hiker boots to '90s sportswear, here are seven men’s autumn/winter 2018 trends to fall into right now.

1. Get checked

Fashion calls for men to check themselves this fall. When it comes to tailoring, the Prince of Wales check makes a rakish statement as a blazer, while houndstooth is a classic check option for two-piece suits.

Punkish plaid should make an appearance as the temp drops too, loudening a trouser or button down shirt to boost a monochrome look.

2. Brown is the new black

Brown is the new black this fall. From tan to chocolate to rich and dark, brown’s warmth lifts a sombre office look in suiting, while a light brown suede is richer alternative to black leather when it comes to casual jackets and dress shoes.

Why not play with layering different tones of brown in the one look or pair a brown piece with colourful pieces to brighten the mood.

3. Outdoors all the way

The coolness of fall beckons even the urban men to dress for the great outdoors. The hiking boot is a must-have item: think black leather or brown suede-panelled boots with tractor tread rubber soles.

Weatherproof jackets in quilted or tech-y fabrics are a fall feature too, and in high-vis orange or yellow for a pop of colour.

4. Better with texture

Add some interest to plain colours with texture. Waxy leather biker jackets in molten black are a staple this season, while collegiate corduroy is a thing once more: think cord over-shirts and cropped cord trousers, depending on where you’re headed.

Then, when a cool snaps comes, adopt a shearling suede jacket as a fashionable and functional way to stay warm. So plush.

5. So '90s

Nineties sportswear is back, and isn’t going anywhere for while. Athletic tracksuits, “ugly dad” white sneakers and shimmery nylon jackets, not to mention bucket hats and boxy collegiate sweaters: all are retro-cum-active fashion pieces to see you through casually and comfortably, this season. Embrace the relaxed.

6. Head West

The rugged appeal of the west is riding high as a trend (again). Think western denim shirts and cowboy-style boots, with a Cuban heel that’ll elevate your height as much as it lifts your style file.

In addition to the neckerchief, the bolo tie is your accessory must-have this season and is a fashionable choice over a boring tie with a collared shirt. Double-denim is also a must, just wear the darker shade down below and lighter denim up top.

7. Sprezzatura returns

Men with more traditional tastes, breathe a sigh of relief. Classic tailoring is in vogue this fall, with suits inspired by Itay’s sprezzatura ethos—being impeccably dressed but with an air of nonchalance about it.

Think artisanal jackets and perfect fit pants, made from exquisite fabrics. With the sartorial icons accounted for, it’s all in the styling, swapping in a turtleneck for a regular shirt and eschewing the tie. Why not invest in a statement watch or eye-catching ring to spruce up that hand? Call it ‘frosting yourself for fall’.
