At Baselworld, the place where watchmakers display their latest creations (on in Basel until March 26), TAG Heuer has announced the return of the Autavia, one of its most iconic models. Inspired by the world of aviation, this new timepiece retains the key aspects of the original Autavia while at the same time looking to the future with an automatic winding movement and an Isograph carbon-composite hairspring.

Unveiled at the start of 2019, TAG Heuer's new carbon-composite hairspring was developed in-house at its watchmaking plant. This innovative technology combined with the chronometer-certified Calibre 5 provides the new generation Autavia with optimum resistance to shocks and gravity and an improved chronometric performance.

This pioneering technology sits alongside retro features, inspired by the original Autavia watches dating back to the early 1960s. These include a bidirectional rotating bezel in blue ceramic, a rounded stainless-steel case and beveled lugs. The new 42mm three-hand Autavia, which is still inspired by aircraft dashboards, has a smoked blue dial with rhodium-plated hour markers and hands coated in SuperLuminova so they can be seen day and night.

With a guaranteed 38-hour power reserve and water resistance of up to 100 metres, this Autavia displays hours, minutes and seconds, as well as a date window at 6 o'clock. It is delivered with a brown calf leather strap and a stainless-steel bracelet; they can be swapped in a matter of seconds using a pushbutton. Price: €3,250.
