What is your skin type?

Dry and sensitive. I have rosacea too.

Who or what influenced your skincare routine?

Getting sunburnt at the beach in my adolescent years! I learned quite early on that protecting my skin is very important, but my skincare routine stayed relatively basic until my late 20s. I’ve delved much deeper into the science of skincare, products, and treatments only within the last few years.

What is your evening skincare routine?

I cleanse with Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O Micellar Water with reusable cotton pads when I’ve just been at home, or CeraVe’s Renewing SA Cleanser when I’ve been out (I double-cleanse with Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Balm when I wear foundation).

I then rotate through several base items depending on the night’s vibe, mixed with a dab of 0.1 per cent retinaldehyde from my dermatologist. I just finished my nth bottle of Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Serum—a no-brainer since it’s so easy to apply and absorbs quickly. I’m also working through La Mer’s The Renewal Oil and Fresh’s Black Tea Overnight Firming Mask. La Mer is for pampering nights, and Fresh is for when the epidermis is extra parched. I’m excited to try new things once those are finished, though. Who doesn’t love having a crack at new skincare goods?

Let's talk holy grails. Are there products you can't live without?

Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O Micellar Water, 1,000 per cent—it’s an absolute mainstay. If I could drink that to cleanse my insides, I would.

Exfoliating toners are the first to go on my face post-cleanse during the day. Biologique Recherche’s Lotion P50V (formulated for dry skin) is perfection for me. I can’t even begin to say just how warranted the hype is—but only if you find the right variant for your skin because it can get hardcore. I also really like By Wishtrend’s Mandelic Acid 5 per cent Skin Prep Water. Acids really are my thing.

The main holy grail though is sunscreen in general. It doesn’t really matter what you put on your skin if you don’t protect it from the sun, its greatest enemy. Bioré’s UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50 PA++++ has been my go-to for about a decade now.

How did you find a skincare routine that works for you?

It was a nerdy trek, but being in the fashion industry has definitely been a boon. Remember when The Ordinary launched? That was when I started looking into ingredients and formulations and figuring out what my skin needed, from hyaluronic acids to actives and the like. I just turned 35 though and I’m acknowledging that topical products can only go so far—like, literally down to just a certain depth into your skin—and that more intensive interventions may be necessary if I choose to keep everything taut and supple. Caring for my skin will change as I change.

What about skincare hacks? What's one hack you think everyone should know?

Keep a can of Bioré’s UV Perfect Spray SPF 50 PA++++ handy for when you can’t be bothered to think about your skin. Spray all over and keep it moving.

Do you use face masks?

No, because I don’t like having that much product sit on my face for at least 20 minutes. But peeling foot masks? Gross and arguably necessary.

Do you have a skincare horror story you'd like to share?

Always having rosacea flare-ups after facial treatments. It’s always traumatising to see redness and blotchiness instead of a dewy, professionally aided glow-up.

How often do you practise skin fasting (a break from skincare)?

Whenever I’m too exhausted from work, which is too often these days. Oops.

What's a skincare rule you've broken that has done wonders to your skin?

Using a stand-alone moisturiser. There’s a huge, misleading difference between hydration and moisture and I’ve learned to prioritise the former and seek the latter as a sunscreen bonus to seal all the nourishment in.
