What’s your skin type?

I think my skin type is oily but prone to breakouts. When I started acting on television and doing regular shoots, I had the worst breakouts, and I tried everything. I used products from the States and heavy medication, but nothing worked. My mom has a cousin from Belo, so ever since then, I would have my facials done there.

What’s your favourite product?

Probably the Obagi ones because I’ve used them for a long time.

Can you walk us through your skincare routine?

My routine is pretty simple—because I have problematic skin. It’s more of the monthly rituals that are more important. I do Obagi, 1-2-3. I start with the cleanser, then the oil control pads. Tipid tip! They’re already cut in half. It’s not like you’re going to use the whole pad. And finally, the firming serum. This is something that I use all over my face. Even the neck. Tita Amy always reminds me that ‘the neck must not be forgotten because it wrinkles in time.’ Just make sure to be gentle because gravity is not your friend! The other stuff, like sunblock, is honestly just random things we found in a grocery store in Japan. It’s important to use sunblock, even at night, supposedly. And, of course, I do Showtime every day. So from Mondays to Saturdays, I have to do a lot of cleaning.

How did you know that your current skincare routine was the one?

My doctor had to approve it, and they’re very strict. My breakouts in the past were worse. So these are the only products I’m allowed pretty much.

Do you follow your skincare routine holistically? Are there any shortcuts that you take?

I’m trying not to take any shortcuts, but for example, if one of my products runs out, that’s when I get breakouts. So I try to follow it. I’ve also been trying to influence my husband, so he’s been doing it as well. Sometimes I forget the eye cream, which is bad because when you smile, the crow’s feet come out. But I do wish I could get more massages.

Would you consider yourself a skincare addict?

I would say no. My mom is a skincare addict, though in the sense that she found a lot of skincare hacks on Tiktok.

Do you have a skincare horror story?

Being a fan of K-Dramas, I tried the face masks, but they don’t agree with my face. So I’m not supposed to try new things, I only have [Obagi] 1-2-3… It [face masks] caused me a breakout because it’s not for my skin type. When I did the peeling before, it was really bad, and it looked like fish gills.

What’s a skincare secret that you think everyone should know?

A lot of people don’t know that you’re supposed to be relaxed. So that’s why the oils are good. I always have oil and massage my hands and feet and it helps with your circulation. It also makes sure that your skin is supple. Just make sure to be clean before you do it. A lot of people prefer lotion, but I prefer oil.

Apart from your routine, what’s something that you do that helps enhance your skin further?

I do steam and sauna because it’s supposedly good for you. At first, I wasn’t a big believer. I also make sure to have those little diffusers in air-conditioned rooms. I use essential oils, eucalyptus, and things in a steam distillation kit. I always bring that to work, especially when I have to sing because it’s not only good for your singing but also your skin… I also love to massage myself or my husband. I get massages at Blue Water Day Spa as well.
