While Miss TayTay has never publicly confirmed the lipsticks she uses, the ones on this list are well-loved by the beauty community. Plus, we did a little research to find out what the popstar has personally worn over the years

For many beauty geeks, there is one timeless trend that has captured hearts for decades: the iconic red lipstick. From Hollywood starlets to everyday self-confessed makeup pros, the allure of a bold red pout remains unrivalled. Among the plethora of options available, a few red lipsticks have emerged as the epitome of glamour and sophistication, captivating beauty lovers worldwide. There is the classic Ruby Woo by Mac Cosmetics, with its matte finish and vibrant hue, to the luxurious and universally flattering shade of Russian Red by Nars, these lipsticks have achieved cult status for good reason.

But a hot question has remained on our minds for many years. Taylor Swift’s preferred lipstick is a mystery. No seriously, what red lipstick does Swift swear by? The pop crooner is hardly seen without her signature red lip.

So here is the backstory: makeup artist Gucci Westman introduced the singer to red lipstick during a magazine cover shoot back in January 2009, and the rest, as they say, is history. Apparently, Swift’s red lipstick obsession extends to re-applying the colour even after a workout.

Fast forward to May this year, the pop star made headlines for her seemingly immovable makeup that survived torrential rain during one of her concerts for her ongoing The Eras Tour in Nashville, Tennessee. For those of us who cared enough to find out the deets (read: do a massive deep dive into her Eras makeup), we know now that Swift has legendary British makeup artist Pat McGrath to thank for.

It is perhaps no coincidence that the singer collaborated with McGrath for The ‘Taylor-Made’ Lip Kit, created after the two teamed up for her Bejeweled music video. The kit contains a red (of course) liquid lipstick with an accompany lip pencil.

If you would much rather get something that is easily available in stores now, read our list below for all the red lipsticks that (we think) TayTay will probably approve of.

Oh, but a pro tip: for a red lip that lasts throughout the day, lightly dust some loose powder after you apply a coat of colour. You won't have to worry about getting caught in the rain.

No list of red lipsticks is complete without Dior Beauty’s iconic Rouge Dior 999. The refillable lipstick comes in four couture finishes: satin, matte, metallic and new velvet. The Rouge Dior range contains floral lip care, as it is enriched with red peony and pomegranate flower extracts of natural origin. Plus, it is a long-wear lipstick that can last up to 16 hours.

For an intense and luminous red hue on the lips, go for Chanel Beauty’s shade 176 - Independante under its Rouge Allure range of lipsticks. It is deliciously vibrant and the lip product melts away onto the lips upon application thanks to its ultra-fine, second-skin texture.

Pat McGrath Labs’ LiquiLust Elson 4

There’s no way we would’ve not included this well-loved cosmetics brand in this list, especially not if Swift is a fan of it herself. The shade in question as seen on Swift in her Bejeweled music video is Pat McGrath Labs’ LiquiLust lipstick in the shade Elson 4. It is a liquid matte formula that dries to a lightweight, velvety finish.

Nars Velvet Matte Dragon Girl

Back in 2014, Swift posted a behind-the-scenes picture of her getting ready for the Met Gala. The said photo showed Swift with a lip pencil in hand. And it was none other than Nars Velvet Matte lip pencil in Dragon Girl. So yes, we believe that she is a fan of the shade. And we understand why. The popular lip product has gained fans over the years because of its lasting power and a gentle formula that is infused with emollients that won’t dry your lips out.

Mac Cosmetics Ruby Woo

Swift once told People magazine that she “recently discovered Ruby Woo by Mac, which I think everyone knows is a staple. I was the last person to discover it.”

The year was 2015, so yes, she was probably right about being late to the game. The cult favourite Mac lipstick sells by the millions every year. The long-lasting retro matte lipstick offers an intense colour payoff and a matte finish. For those who are looking for a different option by the same brand, Russian Red is also a fiery alternative. It is a slightly cool-toned, medium-dark red with a matte finish.
