Think back on scenes from The Talented Mr. Ripley, sailing in leisure wardrobe with Positano as the backdrop and the wind blowing in every direction. Tod’s Spring-Summer 2018 collection had “Italian lifestyle” written all over it. With its deep-seated Italian roots, the brand capitalizes on the discerning taste, timelessness and wise nonchalance that Italian men and women portray. The classic pyjama sets, button-downs, blouson shirts and wrap skirts were given a modern twist in supple nappa leather. The collection also consists of surprising modern elements such as sportswear separates in technical nylon and python-trimmed natural linen. Not without showmanship, the design team pushed forward and ventured on current trends, with whipstitching and fringing seen in most of the accessories. Snakeskin sandals, loafer-sneaker hybrids, quilted satin slip-ons—fringed suede moccasins paired with the unmistakable silk twill shirt in painterly landscape prints (oh so very Italian!) was definitely a fresh take. An eye-catching lavender tank dress with metallic accents and soft suede ombré-dyed separates spurced things up on the runway. The collections’ heavy theme of leisure wardrobe in soothing beiges and soft palettes done in that unmistakable fine craftsmanship Tod’s is known for, makes us all want to book that Italian summer getaway stat.
