Out of sheet masks or your favourite moisturiser? Here are five easy face mask recipes you can try using ingredients you may already have at home

For Sensitive Skin: Oatmeal and Raw Honey

Tatler Asia

Nutritious and rich in antioxidants, it comes to no surprise that oatmeal is just as great for our skin as it is for our health. Terrific as a natural cleanser, it works wonders for ultra-sensitive skin that may not react well to exfoliators without stripping away the natural oils. And because oatmeal is rich in proteins and lipids, it is an ideal moisturising agent that leaves you with baby-soft skin. Paired with raw honey, which is naturally antibacterial with clarifying properties, this oat-based mask is a tried-and-tested skin-soothing treat.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of oatmeal

1 teaspoon of raw honey

1/2 teaspoon of water

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Apply a thin layer over clean skin and leave on for 10-20 minutes.

For Acne-Prone/Oily Skin: Lemon and Egg White

Tatler Asia

A holy grail ingredient for any skin care product designed to treat acne, lemons have high acidic levels as well as antimicrobial and anti fungal properties that help decrease inflammation and oil production. Egg whites aid in the shrinking of large pores and form a protective layer over skin, helping improve your natural complexion over time.

Ingredients:

1 egg white

1/2 (for inflamed acne) or 1 (for mild acne) teaspoon of lemon juice

Instructions:

Whisk the egg white until frothy. Stir in the lemon juice. Gently massage onto skin in a circular motion and let dry for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with tepid water and pat dry. Pay attention to the suggested servings, as too much lemon juice may cause irritation.

For Dull Skin: Coffee, Yogurt, and Turmeric

Tatler Asia

Caffeine stimulates blood flow by dilating the blood vessels, which can help the skin to tighten naturally. Coffee also aids in regulating cell regrowth and promoting blood circulation, making way for brighter, more radiant skin. Yogurt moisturises skin and aids in the diminishing of fine lines and tightening pores. Turmeric revitalises the complexion by helping speed up the process of removing dead cells, revealing healthier and softer skin.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of ground or instant coffee

1 tablespoon of plain yogurt

1 tablespoon of turmeric powder

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Apply mask to clean skin and let it dry for 20 minutes. Rinse and massage skin to boost benefits.

For Dry Skin: Avocado, Olive Oil, and Aloe Vera

Tatler Asia

Packed with hydrating and moisturising properties, avocados are one of nature’s secrets for achieving a softer, more supple complexion. Olive oil, which acts as an antioxidant, is high in Vitamins A, D, E, and K, some of which are highly beneficial for the skin. Mixed with other ingredients, it is effective in promoting hydration. Aloe vera, of course, is a commonly used treatment for dry and flaking skin.

Ingredients:

1/2 of an avocado

1 teaspoon of olive oil

1 teaspoon of aloe vera

Instructions:

Mash the avocado. Mix with the olive oil and aloe vera. Apply to clean skin and rinse off after 10-15 minutes.

For Mature Skin: Milk and Cocoa

Tatler Asia

Sometimes, the simplest ingredients can yield surprisingly great results. The lactic acid in milk softens and peels off dead cells, getting rid of dust, dirt, and clogged pores. Cocoa, on the other hand, hydrates, firms, and tones the skin.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tablespoons of milk

Instructions:

Mix the two ingredients until you achieve a paste-like consistency. Apply to clean skin using circular motions. Wait 5-10 minutes before rinsing off.
