The Omega Museum in Biel / Bienne became the proud new owner of this historic timepiece for a staggering price

After a lengthy and competitive round of bidding at the Geneva Watch Auction: Seven by Phillips, the OMEGA Museum in Biel/Bienne became the proud new owner of Elvis Presley’s 18K white gold wristwatch. Settled at CHF 1,500,000, the auction also sets a new world record for any Omega watch ever purchased.

Dubbed as the “most historically significant Elvis Presley-owned watch to ever appear on the market,” the wristwatch was presented to Elvis by RCA Records in February 1961, at a charity luncheon and concert to celebrate his 75 million records sold worldwide. The 33 mm timepiece houses a manually-wound OMEGA calibre 510, and features 44 brilliant cut diamonds surrounding the bezel, as well as an elegant silvered ivory dial with a small-seconds subdial. On the caseback, the engravings include the words: “To Elvis, 75 Million Records, RCA Victor, 12-25-60.”

That year, Elvis reached the peak of his career with the hits “Are You Lonesome Tonight” and “It’s Now Or Never.” It was also suspected that he’s most likely the first artist in history to achieve that level of sales.

The provenance of the one-of-a-kind Omega timepiece was further confirmed by photos of Elvis wearing the watch, as well as a certificate of authenticity from Jimmy Velvet, the Founder/CEO of the Elvis Presley Museum.

The superstar is also known to have worn several OMEGA watches during his career, including the OMEGA Seamaster he wore during his time in the US Army.
