The 773 Collective opens this weekend - happy shopping!

During a random dinner with friends, Harvey Alumisin pondered the idea of promoting the local fashion scene. He asked himself how he could bring more intention to retail and promote consumer confidence while thriving in the pandemic. The 773 collective was born, named fondly after the pop-up’s location: 773 Dr. Jose P. Rizal Avenue, Makati City.

A core pillar was to develop a space with a sense of community and togetherness centred on creativity and a love for beauty. “We are working toward creating a community that can connect like-minded consumers. Providing local brands a space to thrive especially during the pandemic,” Harvey says.

Interestingly Harvey mainly works in human resources. “I think this is the reason why I branch out to other things I am equally passionate about. I really am a creative at heart, and I’d like to think that I have an eye for design. And because I can’t do creative work in my nine-five desk job, I try to squeeze them in other aspects of my life.”

“773 Collective is a lot of work – getting nine creatives together was not easy. But with my training in HR, I was able to utilise our time efficiently,” Harvey shares. With a strong sense of passion for anything-work related, Harvey was extra thrilled to focus on something as fulfilling and fun as this pop-up. “For the pioneer project, our core mission is to make local brands shine, along with their stories and the people behind them. Our motto for 773 Collective is just like how it started, to make it happen, despite any challenges that come along the way,” he tells us.

How did you curate the featured brands?

We reached out to established and emerging creatives to participate in 773 Collective. We separated it into seven categories, hitting all aspects of lifestyle namely:  fashion, art, lifestyle & homeware, jewellery, candles, planters and dried flowers.

Fashion: Carl Jan Cruz and EC

Art: Mikee Silva

Lifestyle & Homeware: Gabbie Sarenas and Ren Marble

Jewellery: Vestido

Candles: Rare Earth

Planters: Kila Objects & Studio

Dried Flowers: Bloom Room

In each category, we focused on one designer and their specialities — we wanted to create a space where creatives get to showcase their pieces without the competition. With the intention of connecting with like-minded consumers, we wanted to do things slowly, and methodically. As we get better at it, the customers will grow with us.

We also tapped those that have thrived despite the challenges of the pandemic. It is incredible to know the artists’ stories by only using social media to advertise their pieces. Also, these nine amazing artists do not have physical retail stores, so 773 Collective want to give them this avenue to sell.

Any plans for the pop up to come back on future dates?

Yes, we plan to have another one in a few months. Watch out for it through our Instagram account @773Collective. It would be equally fun!

What can people expect from 773?

We want to provide and relive the same sensory experience of retail in a safe manner pre-pandemic. The ability to touch, smell, see and speak to the creatives themselves. The physical conversation and the interaction we all somewhat missed.

We are keen on making our consumers and retailers feel comfortable, so we have created a reservation system. Our in-store customers are able to book an hour slot and bring up to four people to their booking. We also have a virtual catalogue which 773 Collective will be releasing through our Instagram’s link in bio a few days before the collective.

We want to maximise the brands that we work with, which is why we are setting up the space that will allow us to highlight their products. Imagine walking into an apartment or someone’s chic living room, except you can buy anything in it.
