Melissa Shoes Celebrates Its 40th Year With New Colouful Collaborations
In a realm as trend-driven and fast-paced as the fashion industry, it definitely takes mastering a well-crafted formula to last long. Through having a unique brand identity and the openness to collaborate with fellow designers and creative, the Brazilian footwear brand, Melissa, has managed to master this formula for longevity and remain a household name as well as a cult favourite brand across the globe.
Welcoming its 40th year, Melissa launched its newest collection — Color Me, an ode to the transformative power of colour that is both nostalgic and brand new. The collection features punchy primary brights, pale shades and pastels, as well as stark monochromes for the minimalists. It taps into new emotions and strums up a bustling kind of energy.
Established in 1979, Melissa first found inspiration for its iconic Aranha silhouette in the shoes of French Riviera fishermen. Since then, the brand has collaborated with innovators from the realms of fashion, art and architecture. Brazilian furniture designers, The Campana Brothers, sparked a partnership with Melissa in 2004 and have since continued to create designs that bring their homeland’s distinct spirit and culture to countries across the globe. 2008 saw the birth of the Melissa + Vivienne Westwood collaboration, while in 2010, Zaha Hadid worked with the brand to forge a common ground for footwear and architecture.
Some of the most popular Melissa’s in the brand’s 40-year history includes a collaborative style from 1996/97 that was launched with Claudia Schiffer which includes four featured styles: Melissa com Pochete, Melissa Model, Star In Love, Melissa Speed.
The Color Me collection also marks a new beginning for the brand despite carrying a deep connection to its history. For the very first time, the Brazilian footwear collaborated with global fashion brand and retailer, Opening Ceremony, to revamp some of Melissa’s most memorable silhouettes.
Breathing new life into archival pieces, the collaboration presents the launched of three modernised styles: Hatch, Ladii, and Flipp. Fashioned with fisherman netting and trusty straps, the Hatch is ideal for those eager to explore and travel on foot. Geometric low-heeled mule Ladii fuses form and function that can elevate any ensemble. Meanwhile, classic double-strapped Flipp is perfect for those with a soft spot for athleisure. All three styles will be available in a spectrum of fresh, in-the-now shades.
