The fall 2018 Michael Kors show -- held Wednesday, February 14 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center in New York -- will showcase a capsule collection created in partnership with the internationally renowned artist David Downton. The collab is a first for the American label, which has never before joined forces with an artist for its Michael Kors Collection line.
The fall 2018 season will be full for firsts for Michael Kors. Not only will this collection be the label's first with no animal fur -- after announcing plans to go fur-free in December -- but it also brings the first Michael Kors Collection collab with an artist, and not just any artist. The label has joined forces with British fashion illustrator and portrait artist David Downton for a capsule collection, no doubt featuring the artist's drawings and/or portraits.
Michael Kors hasn't given anything else away about the collaboration, which previews in the coming hours on the New York runway. These exclusive designs are due in stores in fall 2018.
"This is our first collaboration with an artist for Michael Kors Collection, and it is very personal. David captures people's essence and style without feeling the need to draw every detail about them -- it's the magic of a great illustrator," Michael Kors said in a statement.
Know for his watercolors and portraits, fashion illustrator David Downton's breakthrough came in 1996 when the Financial Times asked him to illustrate the Paris couture shows. His illustrations and portraits have since appeared in publications such as Vogue, Vanity Fair and The Times.
