Prevention is better than the cure

What has been your quarantine morning and night skincare routine?

Now that I have more time at home, I have really been giving my skin the TLC it needs from all the travelling I did. So I really take my time to do each step morning and night plus I have been experimenting with many at home tools now which is fun.

You can actually see my quarantine routine here.

How is this different from pre-quarantine times? What changed and why?

I have had to be more creative with what I have at home since a lot of the products I had were imported and were not available right away. I guess what changed were the added beauty tools that I got in lieu of being able to freely go to the dermatologist's clinic.

Why do you love skincare?

I love skincare because it's time I carve out in the day for me. It's difficult to shut my brain off from the never-ending to do lists in my mind so when I do my skin care I can focus on something else for a bit. Also, it's very gratifying to see the results of products you have used. I always believe that prevention is better than the cure so if I take care of my skin now, I'm hoping I'll have less issues in the future.

What are your favourite skincare brands? Any specific products you love from that brand?

I think I focus more on the products that I love rather than following brands. Many brands have both hits and misses but some products I really love are:

  • B-Hydra™Intensive Hydration Serum - Drunk Elephant
  • Sunday Riley's- Luna Sleeping Night Oil
  • La Mer's moisturizing cream
  • Skinceuticals CE Ferulic
  • Holifrog's Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash

When my skin looks great it’s when I feel at most confident and everyone deserves to feel that way.

What has been your quarantine morning and night skincare routine?

I follow the multi-step Korean routine to ensure my skin is well nourished.

Morning:

  • Cleanse face
  • Toner
  • Serum
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunblock
  • Face hydration spray

Evening:

  • Double cleanse - balm and gel cleanser
  • Toner
  • Essence - Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, or La Mer treatment lotion
  • Serum
  • Moisturiser
  • Face hydration spray or face oil
  • I also rotate in a sleep mask for nights my skin feels it needs the boost

How is this different from pre-quarantine times? What changed and why?

Most of my at home routine has kept the same but what I miss most is being able to go in for a real pampering session like a facial at Aivee's or one of my favourite derma clinics! It’s always such a treat to have your skin pampered by a professional; you come out feeling so different! I definitely use less make up on a day to day basis now, which is actually quite freeing. It makes days that I do wear make up a lot more special and exciting.

Why do you love skincare?

I love it because keeping your skin looking great is something important, no matter your age. When my skin looks great it’s when I feel at most confident and everyone deserves to feel that way. Also I love the fact that skincare has become something in my day that I look as a little luxury that I get to enjoy. No matter how my day goes, it’s something I do for myself to make myself feel good!

What are your favourite skincare brands? Any specific products you love from that brand?

Almost too many to name! But I will share my of-the-moment favourites. I love adding/ trying the latest ones especially the ones I learn from my friends. Currently my must haves include:

  • Belif: True Cream Moisturiser long time fave of mine because it’s a cream but doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy
  • Banila Co: Zero It Cleanser it’s a balm that is able to clean off even a full face of make up, it has papaya extract for a light
  • Summer Friday's Super amino gel cleanser: It’s a nice light cleanser that leaves my skin feeling very clean
  • Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair: I love how it leaves my skin feeling in the morning!
  • Neostrata Tri therapy lifting serum: It was recommended by my Derma and besides being packed with tons of good stuff has a lux gel like formula that isn't sticky and I even love the scent.
  • La Mer: Their products so well formulated and no matter what you use from their line you know it’s going to be good.

I start and end my day with moisturising

What has been your quarantine morning and night skincare routine?

Skincare for me has been very important for self-care during the quarantine. I love moisturising and my favourites are the regenerating serum from La Mer, Augustinus Bader Cream, and Dr Barbara Sturm’s HA drops! I start and end my day with moisturising. Since I don’t use so much make up now, I also switched to a gentle skin cleanser like the Milky Jelly from Glossier.

Throughout the day, I would mist my face with Tatcha’s Luminous Skin Mist. For when I have zoom, I use the Sunnies Face Perfector dual-ended stick to blur and matte where I need to and balm where I need dew.

How is this different from pre-quarantine times? What changed and why?

My routine became simpler overall but also it made me focus on really taking care of my skin since it’s mostly bare throughout the day. Self-care has been very therapeutic and I love that I don’t rush into it anymore. It’s so much more thoughtful and sensorial now.

Why do you love skincare?

I find also that putting on skin care somewhat relaxes my mind. It’s my mini me time.

I wanted to give my skin a break and just heal from within (fixing my diet and all).

What has been your quarantine morning and night skincare routine?

Honestly, I’m on a detox from all my products at the moment. I’ve been using aztec healing mask almost daily. Sometimes I moisturise but not even too often! I wanted to give my skin a break and just heal from within (fixing my diet and all).

How is this different from pre-quarantine times? What changed and why?

I used to be pretty diligent with my routine, but somehow since the lockdown happened, I wanted to see how I would survive without any products. I honestly felt like it helped so much! I only started breaking out when I was having gut and acidity issues, when I was able to address and control it the pimples went away.

Why do you love skincare?

I still do love skincare despite everything. It’s just now a matter of what really works with me and which I plan to use for a longer period of time. I love my refa facial roller, it really relaxes me and makes me feel extra before going to sleep, haha!

What are your favourite skincare brands? Any specific products you love from that brand?

I love Drunk Elephant. And I can’t live without my Avene Self-Tanning moisturiser, been using it for 8 years now!

But I’ve come to realise is that, less is more...at least for my skin.

What has been your quarantine morning and night skincare routine?

I did an entire reset - back to zero and nothing at all Because I felt that that what was my skin needed. Just cold water in the morning! But Then I only started incorporating products again just a few weeks ago with masks & serums. My skin is loving it!

How is this different from pre-quarantine times? What changed and why?

I finally discovered what works for my skin again especially because I got to take a break from everything. No SPF, primers or makeup since... like in all things, sometimes a reset Is what you need!

Why do you love skincare?

Skincare really makes a difference and I’ve really come to past few months! What you choose greatly affects the condition of your skin. Some products might be too strong, and some Just work perfectly. It’s about finding your perfect match.

But I’ve come to realise is that, less is more...at least for my skin. Currently, either a mask or serum at night is all I need. But as I get older, I notice my skin requirements change and it’s a never ending “EDIT”. Don’t you agree?? My skincare routine say 2-3 years ago is so different from now! Before I was all about moisturisers + SPF+ micellar water and the whole shabang! Now it’s just a mask and some oil or a serum occasionally and I’m good.

What are your favourite skincare brands?

Oh gosh, believe it or not. Korean face masks are just the best!! They do have the best skin after all. Also loving the Organic Healing Oil by Hindy Weber!
