For Omega, every second counts. Literally.

Since the luxury brand’s making in 1848, founder Louis Brandt had the vision of producing watches with the utmost precision possible. Hence, the birth of the “OMEGA” calibre in 1894. And that was just the beginning of a century-long commitment to time-keeping accuracy.

Along its numerous international accolades, Omega was given the biggest recognition as the brand was tapped to be the official timekeeper of Olympics for 28 times now since 1932. The true battleground where the littlest fraction of second matters.

In 2015, Omega further pushed their products into new heights. Having obtained the COSC “chronometer” certification (a test that measures movements for precision, in 5 positions and at several temperatures), the brand made another test that pushes boundaries way beyond time accuracy.

In collaboration with METAS, Omega established the 8 Master Chronometer tests that lasts for over 10 days. The testing mimics every possible condition the watches may undergo, including water resistance, temperature fluctuation, power reservation, and even exposure to magnetic fields as high as 15,000 gauss — the same amount of magnetic energy being generated by an MRI scanner on average.

As of writing, all 8 METAS tests is made in Omega’s factory in Bienne where machines work 24/7 in perfect automated harmony with a 283-step process to complete a full examination. METAS representatives are also present on-site to ensure the quality of all the watches undergoing the test.
