Patek Philippe Introduces New Annual Calendar Watch: The Flyback Chronograph 5905R
Patek Philippe unites in the chronograph 5905R its two signature complications beloved by connoisseurs: a self-winding flyback chronograph and the patented Annual Calendar. It is safe to say that this watch is the latest evolution of a model that epitomises what this Swiss luxury watch manufacturer does best — calendar watches.
Calendar watches comes in wide varieties. Most of these chronographs are based on 31-day cycles and require a regular adjustment to ensure that the right date is displayed. An annual calendar automatically adjusts the date and is mechanically configured to display the different lengths of the month. It is typically more accessible than the perpetual calendar watch and more useful than the standard calendar.
It is said that annual calendar watches had long been forgotten until Patek Philippe introduced the very first example of an annual calendar wristwatch in 1996. Since then, annual calendars have been the flagship product of the luxury watch manufacturer. The Annual Calendar, based on Patek Philippe patent of 1996, automatically takes count of 30 and 31 says and requires correction only once a year.
In 2015, Patek Philippe launched this chronograph’s first version in platinum. This time, it has enriched the collection with a fresh new version in a rose gold case with a brown sunburst dial shading gently to black at the periphery.
The 5905R features a 42-millimetre case in rose gold. The chronograph is 14.03-millimetre thick and has a hefty presence on the wrist.
The brown sunburst dial grants a subtle vintage touch while maintaining the timeless elegance of a Patek Philippe. It highlights a three-face Dauphine hour and minute hands with a luminescent coating, rose-gold applied hour-markers, and luminous dots marking the five-minute points. The three apertures for the day, date, and month are arranged along an arc with day/night indicator.
Its sapphire crystal case back allows anyone to view the movement of the astonishing 402-part self-winding CH 28-520 QA 24H. The chronograph also stays true to the traditional column wheel for transmission of the start, stop, and reset commands. But instead of the horizontal wheel clutch, it uses a vertical disk clutch.
Patek Philippe Annual Calendar 5905R is presented on black shiny alligator leather with square scales and a rose gold prong buckle. This model in rose gold is the new addition to the collection and takes its place alongside the existing versions in platinum with blue or black dials.
