Last week, Saint Laurent invited big names including Charlotte Gainsbourg, Juergen Teller and Hailey Bieber, to their spring-summer 2022 fashion show in the Venetian island of Isola Della Certosa

The show took place at a living experiential artwork installed on the island by world renowned artist Doug Aitken. Entitled Green Lens, it reimagines Venice's natural landscape and classic architecture as a futuristic world, constructing a kaleidoscopic catwalk on which creative director Anthony Vaccarello unveiled his latest men's collection.

We delve into the looks that we cannot stop thinking about since the star-studded fashion show.

An exploration into Saint Laurent's rich womenswear archives from the '70s as well as an ode to traditional silhouettes and tailoring from the Romantic era, there is a wealth of loose-fitting, open-collared white shirts and repurposed gothic lace shirts, styled with contemporary elements that completely embody Saint Laurent's unique aesthetic.

One of the most talked-about looks from the collection is this billowing silk cape with intricate detailing on the cuff and collars. It channels the dramatic flair that we often see in Carnevale di Venezia, a grand festival of opulent ballgowns and elaborate Venetian face masks that has been celebrated in the floating city for centuries.

Notably, Vaccarello gives Saint Laurent's Le Smoking tuxedo suit—created by Yves Saint Laurent in 1966 for women—a modern revamp in different variations. He also pays homage to padded boleros, jacquard jackets and other creations from past collections, without forgetting to bring a modern-day edge—whether it is in the chic styling by pairing iconic pieces with jeans or incorporating unique lapel stitching and opulent fabrics in vibrant hues of deep purple.

This expansive collection also features exciting menswear looks that revives the slim line and bared chest silhouettes that capture the spirit of decades past. The bursts of colour and contrast of proportions embody the playful levity that Vaccarello had set out to bring to the French luxury fashion house, in the spirit of their iconic founder's own explosion onto the fashion scene as the rebellious "boy-wonder" successor to Christian Dior
