Salvatore Ferragamo partnered with designer, Sara Battaglia last year to produce a capsule collection and is gearing up to present yet another show stopping project: Sara Battaglia for Salvatore Ferragamo Pre Fall 2017.

“We are delighted to be presenting this new capsule collection with Sara Battaglia,” adds James Ferragamo. “The success of last year’s collaboration is testament to the principles we and Sara share; and having been keen to explore new ways to push craftsmanship and innovation, this second collection feels even more daring in its vibrancy, quality, and contemporary spirit.”

This collection is quirky, detail oriented, geometric and exciting. Famed bag designer, Battaglia, successfully injects her perspective, artfully balancing her vision with Ferrgamo’s known sophistication and coveted style. There is an excellent balance of tradition and the contemporary.

The collection sees Battaglia playfully juxtapose two classic Salvatore Ferragamo motifs: the zigzag and the House’s signature “Gancio” emblem. Battaglia reworks the zigzag, which has been a Ferragamo hallmark style, with her innovative designs and new use of colour, all of which provides a fresh attitude a level of femininity, while maintaining the vitality of the Italian spirit.

“I’m excited and honored to be collaborating once again with the House of Salvatore Ferragamo,” says Battaglia. “I consider this collection to be the confirmation of our shared values, our similar creative mindset, and our collective commitment to quality craftsmanship and the notion of Made in Italy.” 

What we see now, is a refashioned zigzag, as Battaglia re-works this classic. It now becomes the vertical patchwork that forms the entire body of the bag, presented in both graphic black and white and a muted “winter” rainbow. Ferragamo totes and flapbags incorporate the same jagged visual device paired with delicate stitching details and multi-layering of the finest leather. The bucket bag, meanwhile, extends the “Gancio” into an oversized metal handle.

A new addition is a collection of fur charms which can be attached to any bag. The charms echo the zigzag motif, and add further vibrancy to the collection.

The ‘Sara Battaglia for Salvatore Ferragamo’ Pre-Fall 2017 collaboration represents the latest example of Salvatore Ferragamo’s historical mentoring, which started with the founder’s investment in Italy’s world-class craftsmanship, and continues today through the company’s Fondazione Ferragamo which sponsors both college and graduate artisans.
