La Prairie pursues an artistic exploration on the Science of Light at one of the most prominent art fairs in the world

The luxury skincare brand announce their latest breakthrough in the Science of Light – The Equation of Light, Decoded. Mastering the Science of Light, the scientists at La Prairie drafted an equation based on the relationship between colour, reflection and light as they apply to the skin

A veritable tribute to light and illumination, the alliance of White Caviar Illuminating Pearl Infusion and White Caviar Crème Extraordinaire represents the solution to that equation.  “It is this new chapter in La Prairie’s Science of Light – one which takes the relationship between beauty and light a step beyond – that has inspired us to enter into this very special artistic collaboration with Chul-Huyn,” said Greg Prodromides, Chief Marketing Officer of La Prairie Group. “Art Basel is the perfect venue to exhibit the result of this extraordinary artistic dialogue. Indeed, we are delighted to continue our global partnership with Art Basel, which enters its second year. We believe it is a natural fit, expressing La Prairie’s intrinsic link with the world of contemporary art,” he added.

Transparency depicts a portal of infinite reflections through which the viewer can travel to an imaginary space. Layers of mirrors, reminiscent of the layers within the skin, reflect the light within the piece, creating a luminous illusion of expanded space. This image of the infinite is charged with endless possibilities, allowing a contemplative moment that invokes awareness of the transformative power of light.

On this occasion, La Prairie explores the power of light to enhance and exalt beauty through a collaboration with South Korean artist Chul-Huyn Ahn, a recognised figure in the world of Optical and Light Art. The illuminating exhibition composed of a series of three unique works will be on display in the La Prairie Pavilion of the Collectors Lounge at the 2019 edition of Art Basel in Hong Kong.

Light Drawing uses light to evoke a precise geometric arrangement of atoms that constitute a molecule. Simple lines and points mimic the magnified structures. Beginning with the Science of Light, this work uses reflection and luminosity to depict the beauty of the most basic building blocks of the universe.

Using light, his sole medium of artistic expression, Mr. Ahn creates sculptures combining luminescence, colour, and illusion as physical representations of infinite beauty. The resulting luminary sculptures urge the viewer to consider humankind’s boundless quest to explore the notion of timelessness and the poetics of light.

The culmination of the artistic collaboration between La Prairie and Chul-Hyun Ahn will be available for viewing March 29-31, 2019 in the Collectors Lounge at Art Basel in Hong Kong.
