IWC Schaffhausen launches its 2016 Pilot's Watch collection in style

In 1936, IWC Schaffhausen revealed its first “Special Pilot’s Watch.” This year, however, was a rather exciting time in design for the luxury watchmaking company. Pun intended.

Big Pilot’s Heritage Watch

Said Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen: “In 2016, we’re widening our range to include smaller Pilot’s Watches in the entry-level segment, without neglecting our traditional heritage.”

Elegant, timeless and now a godsend for watch connoisseurs and collectors with slighter wrists (read: men with slimmer wrists and ladies with a penchant for serious timepieces), the 2016 Pilot’s Watch collection ought to be a source of pleasure to many collectors this year.

Timezoner Chronograph

As such, the Swiss luxury watch brand released a thoroughly balanced range of Pilot’s Watches spanning the Big Pilot’s Heritage Watch to the stylish Mark XVIII as well as the sophisticated Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36. Notably, the brand new Timezoner Chronograph boasts a world-first that is in line with the theme of piloting and aviation; ingeniously, this amazing timepiece, with a mere twist of the bezel, one is able to change the time zones, including the date, thus rendering it the ultimate world time watch for frequent travellers.

Featuring enormous case diameters of 55 and 48 millimetres respectively, among the eye-catchers of the collection are the Big Pilot’s Heritage Watches. Another noticeable update can be found in the collection’s straps: “We are now supplying almost all our Pilot’s Watches with top-quality calfskin straps from Santoni,” shared IWC Creative Director, Christian Knoop. “By doing so, we are bridging the gap between tradition and contemporary elegance – straps for pilot’s watches were always made of hard-wearing calfskin or cowhide. It was the material used for the straps on the Big Pilot’s Watch. But we wouldn’t be IWC if we didn’t make our straps an experience in their own unique right. leather lining. In addition to this, we offer the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph.”

Mark XVIII

With a focused passion in timeless design, technology and development, the brand has been producing timepieces of lasting value since 1868. In true IWC Schaffhausen style, the Swiss watch manufacturer has left the horology world awaiting a follow-up reprisal collection of aviation masterpieces. But until they do, watch this (air) space.
