Best pizza in the world 2023 is from the Philippines: Two local pizzerias named top 100

50 Top Pizzas just revealed their top 100 world rankings, naming two Philippine pizzerias as No. 54 and No. 96, with one taking home the title of 2023 World Pizza of the Year

Following the reveal of their 50 Top Pizzas in the United States, EU, and APAC, awards body 50 Top Pizza unveiled their world rankings on September 13, 2023, naming the top 100 pizzerias across the globe. Held at Teatro di Corte in the historical Palazzo Reale di Napoli (the Royal Palace of Naples), the highly-anticipated event gathered pizzaiolos from Tokyo to Copenhagen, San Francisco, to Bangkok. This 2023, for the first time, not one but two Philippine restaurants made it to the list—with one of them even grabbing the title of 2023 World Pizza of the Year.

In an exhilarating tie, two Italian pizzerias topped the 50 Top Pizza World 2023: 10 Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria in Naples, and I Masanielli – Francesco Martucci in Caserta. New York’s Una Pizza Napoletana followed in second place, and Sartoria Panatieri rounded out the top three, representing Barcelona.

2023 has been a massive year for Crosta Pizzeria, the ever-popular pizza shop by Ingga Cabangon Chua and Thomas Woudwyk. Named the Philippines’s best pizzeria earlier this May, Crosta Pizzeria took the No. 10 spot in the regional APAC rankings—a remarkable leap from their 32nd place in 2022, in large part thanks to their new head chef Yuichi Ito.

Now, they’ve secured their title as No. 54 in the world and even took home the award for 2023 World Pizza of the Year for their cherry culatello pie. Adorned with black Tasmanian cherries marinated in marsala, gorgonzola cream, mozzarella, and balsamic vinegar, the Philippine-made pie is no longer just the APAC Pizza of the Year 2023, but a pizza that demands the world’s attention.

Crosta recently celebrated the opening of its newest outlet, located at Greenhills Shopping Center, San Juan City.

A MANO — No. 96 in the world

Above A Mano secures world top 100 ranking, representing the Philippines alongside Crosta Pizzeria

Above A Mano named no. 96 in the world and 15th in APAC

A Mano is the second Philippine name to represent the country in this year’s global top 100 ranking at No. 96. Helmed by Amado Forés, the restaurant likewise boasted a sensational jump in the regional APAC bracket, climbing the ladder to No. 15 after its 48th ranking in 2022. A Mano, which translates to “by hand” in Italian, is best known for its handmade pizzas and pasta and has been top of mind as a beloved fixture in the Philippine dining scene since 2019.

Just last August, Forés opened the doors to A Mano‘s third location, tucked within Gateway Mall 2 of Araneta City, Quezon City.
